The absolute location for Italy is 41° 53’N, 12° 28’E. Rome is in the region of Lazio. Italy is one of the leading producers of renewable energy. Rome is home to the country of Vatican City, and the Vatican is the seat to the Roman Catholic Church. Just ten miles outside of Rome is the Leonardo Da Vinci- Fiumicino Airport.

Roman architecture has developed over the centuries, and has many design styles starting with the classical Roman style, such as in the Colosseum. Ancient Roman architecture has influenced Western architecture because Romans invented the dome, arch and vault. Other styles in Roman architecture are: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical Rome, and Fascist Modern.

Now I am in Paris, France. Paris is the capital of France and it is the largest city in there. Paris is located in Northern France and the longitude and latitude for Paris is: 48° 51’N, 2° 21’E. The River Seine runs through Paris and it is a major tourist attraction. The chief airport in the Paris area is the Charles De Gaulle airport, with an estimated amount of passengers, which is 59.9 million. One of the many things that make Paris unique is that it is home to the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is the leading tourist attraction in Paris. There are twenty-two mainland regions, much like states, in France. Paris is in the Centre Region of France. Each region has it’s own elected council.  Paris is also home to the Louvre, a world renowned art museum and it is home to many extremely famous painting such as, The Mona Lisa and A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.

French cuisine is very popular throughout the world. Their love of food started back in the middle ages and has evolved greatly since then. French food has influenced Western cuisine. French food is very rich and a lot of butter and cream are used. In France there are customarily three meals a day.

Next Stop: London, England

My next stop was London, England. It is located on the south east coast of England. The longitude and latitude is 51° 3’N, 0° 7’ W. London is the capital city of the United Kingdom, and has one of the largest populations in Europe. London has a temperate climate with hot summers, and cool winters. London has a major port on the River Thames. People use the River Thames for Transportation and also for tourism. London is home to four World Heritage Sites, the Tower of London, the Kew Gardens, the settlement of Greenwich, and the site which includes: the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and St. Margaret’s Church.

This is a map that shows the sites I went to in London.

Culturally, the English value their history, and they show this by putting great care into preserving national monuments. Examples of this are Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, and Big Ben. These historic sites have become tourist attractions, which help with London’s economy.

My First Stop

The first stop on my journey is Dublin, Ireland. Dublin is the capital and the largest city in the country. It is on the east coast of Ireland, and it borders the Irish Sea. The absolute location, longitude and latitude, is 53.3428°N, 6.2661°W.Dublin located at the mouth of the Liffey River, and the river separates the city into two equal parts. There is a large port, called The Dublin Port, and it is the largest sea port in Ireland. Dublin has cool summers and mild winters. Dublin is the center of trade and transportation in Ireland. Ireland is unique because it is a country that speaks Gaelic.

This map shows Dublin's location on the east coast of Ireland. Sorry this map doesn't look the the maps on other posts- I couldn't find a good map!

Dublin has a very strong relationship with the arts. Dublin is home to the Abbey Theater. Many famous writers including Oscar Wilde, William Butler Yeats, and James Joyce, all considered Dublin home. The National Museum, Nation Gallery of Art, and Irish Museum of Modern Art are all located there.

Introduction to my Trip

Welcome to my blog! Over the course of one month I will be spending a week in four different places. Every week I will go somewhere new. I will make one post about each of the four places I visit.
I am a sixth grader and I go to a small school called Dedham Country Day School. I am making this blog in World Studies class. Over the past couple months in World Studies, we have been studying North Africa, Africa, the Middle East, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Outside of school I enjoy playing field hockey, playing soccer and figure skating.
This is the order of my stops
I am going to start my trip by going to Dublin, Ireland. Next, I will visit London, England. After that, I’m going to go to Paris, France. Finally, I am going to end my trip by going to Rome, Italy.
